How to Wear a Maxi Dress Two Ways

I have a feeling that maxi dresses are going to be a major staple in my closet for the next few months. They’re loose, comfy, and always look chic, perfect for my growing bump. Although it’s just starting to warm up, I’ve already worn this dress a handful of times because it feels like wearing PJs (okay, more like a nightgown) but looks more pulled together than a lot of my other maternity clothes.

In my third trimester, it’s hard to find outfits that look pulled together, so finding this dress was a true gem. Here I styled this versatile maxi dress two ways, but there are really endless possibilities when it comes to black maxis. You can layer on a big necklace or statement earrings, tie an oxford over it, or top it with a denim jacket or blazer.

Style 1: Brunch with the girls

Add a denim jacket and cross body bag for easy movement that you can wear wherever the day takes you! I love this look because you can take on and off the jacket easily, and the cross-body bag keeps your hands free for important tasks like shopping and eating! The gold necklace adds a bit of bling, and makes it look like you put in more of an effort. Other places where you could wear this look would be to the movies, out to an early dinner, a or a backyard BBQ.

Remember while that swimwear seems like a small part of your wardrobe, it’s important to take good care of it so that it lasts for summers and beach vacations to come. To build the perfect swimwear collection, I think you need: A great one-piece swimsuit, a fabulous bikini, two comfortable cover ups, and an oversized beach hat. Mix and match and you’ll be good to go!

Style 2: Summer date night

Throw on a statement necklace and easy clutch for a comfortable but chic date night look. Because the dress is solid black and the necklace makes such a statement, this outfit feels far more elevated than it is. There’s something to be said about the simplicity of it… I think that is what makes it so elegant. Other places where you could wear this would be to a summer party, baby shower, or dinner with the girls.

The only problem I have with maxi dresses is that they’re made of lots of fabric, so ironing or steaming them takes forever. Luckily my Electrolux dryer has an awesome feature so that I don’t have to even think about breaking out the iron. The Instant Refresh wrinkle release option gently releases wrinkles (and static!) in my clothes to keep them looking fresh for every wear. At the end of the day, maxi dresses, especially in classic versions like this, can be incredibly versatile. I suggest stocking your closet with casual maxi dresses to create an easy go-to summer wardrobe!
