Electrolux is letting students from around the world compete to design household appliances for the year 2020. The competition’s registration process was run via Designboom.com, an independent industrial design community website.
Most of the entries were received from students of industrial design or architecture. Submissions came from students in 88 countries, the top six countries being the US, the UK, China, India, Brazil and Italy. Interestingly, men outnumber women two to one: about 2000 submissions were received by men and about 1000 from women.
The last date to submit entries was September 15. A jury of leading design professionals has begun the work to evaluate the entries. They are judging entries based on design and innovation with respect to both function and technology, with a strong focus on solving real problems in everyday life.
This jury will select 12 finalists to participate in a six-day design event in November in Stockholm, including workshops, model building and a competition for cash-awards, appliances and more.
