By the year 2025, between 2.6 and 3.1 billion people could be living in either water-scarce or water-stressed conditions and the average supply of water per person will drop by a third.
Keeping water sources free of effluents from production and producing products with high levels of water efficiency are both highly relevant to Electrolux.
The Electrolux response:
- Water efficiency is central to product innovation. In 1995, a dishwasher consumed an average of 22 liters of water per load. Today our most efficient dishwashers consume 14 liters—a reduction of 37% in the last 10 years. That is 80% less water than is needed to wash the same amount of dishes by hand in an average household.
- We closely monitor and strive to reduce water use and emissions to water in our production facilities.
- Our due diligence process during acquisitions and sales of Electrolux facilities evaluates sites for potential groundwater contamination. It is an integral part of environmental risk assessments.
- China and India are among the most affected by the current water crisis. By transferring our water efficient products to emerging markets such as these, we are contributing to better use of limited resources.
- In 2005, Electrolux India received a silver prize for the TV commercial “Save water” at the advertising and marketing effectiveness AME Awards (New York Festivals). The film’s objective is to communicate the importance of using water efficiently to consumers.
As of July 7, 2005, Electrolux divested
its interests in India. The Electrolux brand will continue to be present in India, through a license agreement which includes strict criteria regarding design, quality, product offering and market communication.
