We are concerned about global warming, which poses the greatest threat to our environment today. Our industry has a role to play in this debate. In Europe, for example, electricity used for appliances accounts for approximately 4% of the total CO2 emissions.
More efficient use of energy—both in products and production facilities—play an important role in reducing the greenhouse gas emissions that are heating up our planet. We recognize the importance of the Kyoto Protocol, the international agreement to combat global warming.
The Electrolux response:
- We will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions by continually improving energy efficiency of our products. The most efficient refrigerators made by Electrolux today consume no more electricity than a low-energy light bulb.
- We continually improve processes to cut energy use in our manufacturing.
- We support appropriate standards for product energy consumption and air emissions and advocate the use of energy labelling.
- Together with other manufacturers in Europe, we are committed to voluntary agreements on improving energy efficiency.
- We communicate the importance of energy efficiency to consumers.
- Electrolux has identified water efficiency as a cornerstone of its product development. Water efficient appliances can also help reduce energy use, by cutting the amount of energy used to treat, pump and heat water.
